The place where the new city is going to be build is located 3 km from the former city center. A distance who might not be enough to preserve the city from the future ground deformation if the mine continue to grow. A new moving will then be necessary. The moving is running on several years, but the main moment will be during the autumn 2022, when most of the inhabitants and shops will move. But the first people start to move in the new city area. The former firefighter station which is the main building of Kiruna Böstader, the accommodations agency in charge in Kiruna, will be fully move in 2022. Kiruna Böstader is also one of the main operator in the new city construction. Jonny Ipsen work for LKAB, he is “bergförstärkäre”. his job is to reinforce the tunnel after the drilling. He is currently not living in the area concern by the moving but, as many of the inhabitants, he think this is necessary in order that the mine, as the city continues to exist. Il n’habite pas la zone concernée par le déménagement mais, comme pratiquement l’ensemble des habitants, le juge nécessaire pour que la mine et la ville puissent continuer d’exister.
Some of the buildings have already been moved and installed. Ingenjörsvillan, builted in 1900,and which was the structural mine engineer, was one of the first building transported in 2017. But the situation is not the only one. In the arctic, the neighbor city of Malmberget, located 125 km in the south, is also partially moving.
